Calculators are estimates
Every calculator on this Site produces an estimate based on the inputs you provide and the formula we have implemented. The estimate is only as accurate as your inputs and only as current as the rule on which the calculator is based. A calculator cannot account for every variable that an agency adjudicator, tax examiner, or judge might consider — including facts you may not realize are relevant.
For example, our VA Combined Disability Rating Calculator applies the official combined-ratings table at 38 CFR § 4.25, including the bilateral factor and the 10% rounding rule. But the calculator cannot predict whether the VA will grant a particular rating for a particular condition — that depends on the diagnostic code, the C&P examination findings, and the Rating Veterans Service Representative's interpretation of the evidence. The calculator's output is a mathematical projection, not a guarantee of any outcome.
Laws change frequently
The rules underlying our calculators change often, sometimes with little notice. VA compensation rates adjust annually. Social Security bend points update each year. The IRS contribution limits and tax brackets change with inflation. UK immigration rules are amended by Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules multiple times per year. SECURE 2.0 moved the RMD age to 73 in 2023 and will move it to 75 in 2033. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act exemption is scheduled to sunset on January 1, 2026.
We review and update our content regularly, but there may be a gap between when a law changes and when we update the affected calculator or article. Each article displays a "Last reviewed" date — if the date is more than a few months old, or if you have reason to believe the rule has changed, verify the current law with the relevant agency before relying on the content.
